- Abstract
This article focuses on altered complement component C'3A in patients with glomerulonephritis. The determination of the altered form of the complement component C'3A in the fresh plasma of patients with acute glomerulonephritis with low serum complement provides direct evidence confirming the concept that it is low because it is used up in an immunological reaction, and thus providing further evidence that acute nephritis may be an immunological disease. The complex pattern of the arcs of precipitate of the faster moving proteins obtained in some cases certainly needs further investigation, but it seems reasonable to equate the changes with that resulting from exposure to an immune precipitate, even if these findings appear to be more complex than previous reports have suggested.
