- Title
RESEARCHERS IDENTIFY ACTIVE VITAMIN D.
- Abstract
The article discusses the identification of Metabolite 4B in intestinal absorption of calcium in the body. Metabolite 4B is an active form of vitamin D which was discovered by biochemists from the University of California, Riverside. According to the researchers led by Anthony W. Norman, Metabolite 4B is produced by the kidneys. This compound undergo in one of a two-stage series of metabolic transformations that vitamin D pass through inside the system. The research team presented their findings of Metabolite 4B at the annual meeting of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology.
