Pogach, Leonard; Engelgau, Michael; Aron, David
- Abstract
The article focuses on controlling hemoglobin A1c in patients with diabetes. The authors offer a look at the few improvements made in glycemic control among patients from most demographic groups in the United States. Public reporting of hemoglobin A1c levels, practice guidelines, and performance measures are discussed. The roles of the Ambulatory Care Quality Alliance and the National Committee for Quality Assurance in public reporting are discussed. The authors also address threshold measures, public accountability, and alternate approaches to measuring glycemic control.
