- Abstract
The article discusses "Cruise-Ship-Associated Legionnaires Disease, November 2003-May 2004." Eight cases of Legionnaires disease (LD) in people who had been passengers on five different cruise ships were reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States. LD is caused by Legionella ssp. and L. pneumophila. The two CDC surveillance systems that collect data on LD are mentioned. The CDC editorial note comments on the study, the identification of Legionella spp., and the difficulty that cruise ships have in reporting and investigating LD cases.
