- Abstract
The article offers the author's insights on the plagiarism and the self-plagiarism regarding the publication of medical journals. The author says that plagiarism applies to the adoption of ideas and methods in a medical journal without the acknowledgement or recognition of the author. He mentions the four types of self-plagiarism including salami-slicing, redundant or duplicate publication, and copyright infringement. He adds that self-plagiarism can lead to the ceased of publication of other relevant medical articles. Moreover, he notes that medical editors can use the Self Plagiarism detection tool (Splat) to prevent plagiarism in medical publishing, which functions have three modes namely web spider mode, reviewer's workbench mode, and author mode.
