- Abstract
This article discusses ecclesiastical immunity to the law in the region of San Luis Potosí, Mexico during the 17th and 18th centuries. It examines the legislative structure of the courts based on the Castilian system of law. The author analyzes the relationship between secular and ecclesiastical jurisdictions, including law making practices and justice administration. She also studies instances of conflict between the secular and religious court systems in the region over the refuge and protection of criminals by religious authorities.
