- Title
LOCKED OUT: HOW THE DISPROPORTIONATE CRIMINALIZATION OF TRANS PEOPLE THWARTS EQUAL ACCESS TO FEDERALLY SUBSIDIZED HOUSING.
- Authors
Kopansky, Dina
- Abstract
The author argues that the disproportionate criminalization of transsexuals, genderqueer individuals, and people with gender identity dysphoria (trans people) thwarts equal access to federally subsidized housing in the U.S. and presents a barrier to survival for many low-income trans people. It states that trans people face heightened surveillance, violence, and policing in America. Housing discrimination and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Equal Access rule are examined.
