- Abstract
The article discusses research done on the relationship of fractures with dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) measures of bone mineral density (BMD) in the distal femur of patients with cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy. There are several diseases that prevent the reliabity of BMD measures including, but not limited to, hip dysplasia, scoliosis, and joint contractures. Information on the distal femur DXA scan technique is also presented. It cites the role of nutrition and medications in the poor bone health of children with both diseases.
