- Abstract
Introduction: Ganglioneuroma (GN) is a rare benign neurogenic tumour that is uncommonly seen in the head and neck region. There are even fewer reported cases of GN of the parapharyngeal space. Parapharyngeal GN may be asymptomatic or presents as a slow enlarging lateral neck mass. Although rare, ganglioneuroma should be included in the differential diagnosis of neck masses. Objective: To report an extremely rare case of parapharyngeal GN. In this case report we discuss the initial presentation, diagnostic testing and treatment of this disease. Design: Retrospective case note analysis and follow-up of the case. Materials and Methods: Review of the patient's case note and investigation results were made. Results: 9-year-old girl who presented with one-month history of painless, slow growing right cervical swelling. She underwent surgical resection of the tumour and histopathological examination confirmed she had parapharyngeal ganglioneuroma.
