- Title
Spotlighting "Neutrophil Elastase Triggers the Release of Macrophage Extracellular Traps": A New Catch in Cystic Fibrosis?
- Authors
Helms, My N.; Liou, Theodore G.
- Abstract
The authors discuss a study by A. B. Kummarapurugu and colleagues which reported that neutrophil elastase (NE) promotes macrophage extracellular trap (MET) release in human blood monocyte-derived macrophages (hBMDM) from subjects with and without cystic fibrosis (CF) as well as from alveolar macrophages (AMs) harvested from Cftr-null and wild-type mouse littermates. Topics include consequences of ineffective immune responses and cellular necrosis and role of MET in the pathogenesis of CF.
