- Abstract
The article analyzes the origin and evolution of the concept of "risk". The author proposes a historiographical reconstruction of the different meanings that accumulate in the word "risk", from its origin in 7th century Islam to its development in modern society. The importance of rizq in Islamic culture and its relationship with travel is highlighted. During the 8th, 9th, and 10th centuries, Arab hegemony imposed practices and terminology related to maritime insurance in Mediterranean languages. The term "risk" is used in land risk deals and expands with the trade of the Indies in the 16th century. From the Lisbon earthquake in 1755, a new form of responsibility arises for not foreseeing risks.
