- Title
A Dance to the Music of Architecture.
- Authors
WINTERS, EDWARD
- Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between architecture and music and examines an approach to architecture appreciation that considers the movement of architecture and music. The author addresses three stages of architecture and architectural criticism: paper architecture, which includes models and drafts, the nature of architectural function, and the judgment and assessment of architecture. An analysis of Apollonian and Dionysian approaches to the aesthetics of art and architecture, as addressed in works by philosophers Friedrich Nietzsche and Gordon Graham, is presented. The author proceeds to discuss the assessment of architecture as a form of art, which he suggests is sometimes in conflict with the functional aspects of architecture as the creation of dwellings.
