The authors looks at historian Craufurd D. W. Goodwin in the role of mentor. The author talks about working for two months in the archives of the Ford Foundation, examining the history of their granting activities in economics. The author states that Goodwin was able to talk about historical and cultural topics that carried the students beyond the narrow mental confines of an economics program on an isolated university campus.
