- Abstract
The article presents an engineering method for calculating the thermal bulge of work rolls of the hot rolling mill. The technique is based on the exact solution of the heat equation and the measurement of the temperature distribution along the work roll barrel after handling. Boundary conditions of the heat equation for the characteristic cross sections identified with the work roll temperature measured in these typical cross sections. It is shown that the actually measured temperature distribution along the work roll barrel is adequately approximated by a parabola of the 4th grade. This illustrates the sufficiency of the specific number of series components in the expression describing the change of temperature distribution along the radius of the work roll for different intervals of time elapsed from the beginning of the campaign of the work rolls. The presented method is developed for calculating the thermal bulge of work rolls.
