- Abstract
A study published in the Global Spine Journal examined the prevalence of work-related neck pain in spine surgeons. The study found that 66.3% of the 383 spine surgeons surveyed reported experiencing neck pain at least once in the previous year. Factors associated with neck pain included younger age, lack of participation in sports, and exposure to physical stress. Interestingly, the study also found that surgeons who performed more than 300 operations per year reported fewer work-related musculoskeletal disorders. The authors suggest that further research should focus on real-time measurements of ergonomic parameters during surgery.
