- Abstract
The article presents a study on a full-length cDNA cloning and tissue distribution of epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) protein during ontogeny in the gills, and the kidney, pronephros and mesonephros of the Japanese black salamander, Hynobius nigrescens. Adult specimens and egg masses of the salamander were collected from ponds in Toyama City, Japan. It was found that Hynobius ENaC expression has a vital role in the regulation of sodium transport in the external gills and pronephros of aquatic larvae and in the skin and mesonephros of terrestrial adult.
