- Abstract
This article attempts to describe the current status of photojournalism education, its impact on journalism and mass communication programs, and its role in the overall education of all students in those programs. Deans and directors at 179 member institutions of the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication were surveyed in September 1989. The survey included questions on photojournalism curricula, course enrollment and frequency, facilities, faculty, type of program offered, inclusion in other courses, and requirements for other majors. Photography courses were offered in 83 percent of the journalism and mass communication schools or departments surveyed.
