- Title
The Final Frontier: How Does Diabetes Affect the Brain?
- Authors
Seaquist, Elizabeth R.
- Abstract
The author comments on a study which found that hippocampal volumes were increased in children with the largest number of severe hypoglycemic episodes, based on imaging data collected from a large cohort of children with type 1 diabetes. They assert that defining the impact of diabetes and related risk factors on cerebral structure and function will require carefully evaluating type 1 diabetes patients over their life span through the use of sophisticated imaging technology and comprehensive neurocognitive testing.
