- Abstract
The article focuses on the return of French General Marquis de Lafayette to the U.S. from 1824 to 1825 for the country's 50th anniversary celebration. Former President James Monroe wrote a letter to Lafayette requesting him to visit the country again. Other former presidents, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, adopted the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen of Lafayette to the Bill of Rights. It adds that Lafayette proposed the design of the French flag based on the American flag.
