- Abstract
To deepen the understanding of low-grade serous carcinoma (LGSC) of the ovary a group of gynecological and medical oncologists and pathologists recently formed the Canadian LGSC community of Practice (GOC-CoP). One aim of GOC-CoP is to establish a prospective nation-wide clinical database for LGSC. A requirement for success is accurate diagnosis of LGSC by the community of pathologists. In the first part of this review, we will discuss common diagnostic problems, including recommendations for an effective use of ancillary diagnostic tests. In the second part, prognostic and potentially predictive biomarkers will be discussed, including recommendations for ordering and reporting. Consistent and standardized biomarker reporting will help to collect high quality data into the prospective data repository initiated by the LGSC GOC-CoP.
