- Abstract
The author contemplates on the problems and challenges facing older people living in a rapidly industrialized country. He particularly explores the modern problem of old age which is poverty caused by inability to find employment. The author then discusses the downsides of the wage-contract system, of which older people usually depend upon for their means of existence. Furthermore, the author explores the advantages and disadvantages of organized public or private charitable relief and the old-age pension systems.
