- Abstract
The article presents information on chronic kidney disease. The kidneys act as blood filters that drain waste products while retaining important blood contents such as proteins. Chronic kidney disease results in decreased urine production and kidney failure and diabetes is one of the reasons for kidney failure in the U.S. Risk factors include smoking, excessive salt intake, and lack of physical exercise. Preventive measures include control of blood sugar levels.
