- Abstract
The article focuses on the French intellectual Gustave de Beaumont and his work "L’Irlande sociale, politique et religieuse," which was published between 1844 and 1863. The author examines the historical topics of this work and the ways that De Beaumont's writing was influenced by the social and political climate in France. During this time, France was governed by the so-called July Monarchy of French King Louis Philippe. According to the article, De Beaumont utilized the research of several Irish Liberal historians in producing his synthesis. The influence of the Irish poet Thomas Moore on De Beaumont is mentioned. According to the article, De Beaumont believed that Ireland held some lessons for France in that it balanced democracy, religion, and liberty.
