- Title
THE VAGAL AND SYMPATHETIC INNERVATION OF THE HEART OF THE LIZARD TILIQUA RUGOSA.

- Abstract
This article presents a study related to the vagal and sympathetic innervation of the heart of the lizard tiliqua rugosa. It is well-established that the vagas nerve in the anuran amphibians is a mixed vagosympathetic trunk and there is no evidence that sympathetic fibres reach the heart independently of the vagus in any amphibian. It seems that in many reptiles there is little, if any, sympathetic contribution to the cervical vagus nerve. For instance, in crocodilian reptiles it has been shown that the cardiac sympathetic fibres from the stellate ganglion approach the vagus only close to the heart.
