- Abstract
The feed conversion rate of commercial hogs is a critical information to breeding and feeding management. We could get the feed conversion rate by calculating feed consumption and weight gain of pigs. Pigsty is used as the marking unit in Taiwan hog farms instead of ear mark or tag on individuals. To measure the feed intake of each pigsty, we made feeding buckets remodeled: installing two load cells, which could monitor the weight of feeds in each bucket at any time. The real-time figures are shown on the monitor facing the hall way, and convert to digital signal transmitted to computer through Network every 0.2 seconds. We wrote a program using python to eliminate the deviated value and drew the graph of the feeds weight to time. Such data could be the indicator of feeding strategy and calculate the feed intake in a period of time, which might be utilized to calculate feed conversion rate in selection program.
