- Abstract
Radiographic, spirometric and respiratory symptoms questionnaire examinations of personnel engaged in carbon fibre production since it began in 1972 have revealed no evidence of ill effects on the lungs. Dust concentrations were low, mean levels for the dustiest (laboratory) group being 0.39 mg m total dust and 0.16 mg m respirable dust. The carbon fibres. dia. 8–10 μm, fractured laterally but not longitudinally into fibrils. Respirable particles were mostly non-fibrous and comprised of resin sizing and extraneous material.
