- Abstract
The article discusses a study of the potential use of Anoctamin-1 (Ano1) as a sensitive and reliable marker of interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) in patients with slow transit constipation (STC). The authors demonstrated that Ano1 immunoreactivity identifies all subclasses of ICC in the stomach, small intestine, and colon in humans as well as in mice. They found that the numbers of ICC in tissues from controls and STC were identical across the range of ICC numbers from an average of 1.64 to 7.05 cells per field.
