- Abstract
The fire department has as its basic mission the prevention of life, the environment and heritage, as well as carrying out activities with preservation of public order and civil defense activities, such as fire prevention and extinction, protection and rescue of lives, catastrophes and public calamities. However, it is expected physical fitness and mental health balance. Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the world. Investigation of risk factors, as well as its management has been the focus of many researches in the past decades in a variety of populations. Objective: identify the main risk factors for CAD within the Fire Department of the city of Rio de Verde-GO. Methodology: risk factor assessments were performed with 27 fire fighters of the 4th Group of Firefighters of the city of Rio de Verde-GO. The goals were to survey levels of physical activity, degree of nicotine addiction, anxiety and depression, age assessment, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure and possible correlations within. Results: among the risk factors for CAD, high BMI and high anxiety levels were those that most affected the individuals assessed. Considering the findings, a significant correlation between age and levels of physical fitness. Final considerations: it was concluded that within the risk factors for CAD investigated in the sample, the most prevalent were obesity and anxiety; and regarding the correlations, it was observed that the higher the age the lower the level of physical performance, which could increase the probability of the occurrence of CAD.
