- Abstract
The article presents a study which examines the breeding of Black Oystercatchers Haematopus bachmani in the Salish Sea along British Columbia and Washington. For the study, researchers analyzed all nesting locations between 2005 and 2006 in order to determine the status of the Black Oystercatcher population. They found that the total oystercatcher population in the location during 2005-2006 included at least 420 breeding birds and 141 non-nesting birds. They also found that the growing human population in the area may result to increasing failure to nest.
