Presents a study on acidic deposition, which is the transfer of strong acids and acid-forming substances from the atmosphere to the surface of the Earth. How it has emerged as a critical environmental stress which affects forested landscapes and aquatic ecosystems in North America, Europe, and Asia; How it is an example of a new class of environmental issues which are multiregional in scale; Opportunities to assess effects of three decades of clean air legislation on emissions reductions as of March 2001.
