- Abstract
Gender assignment and gender-affirming care for patients with DSD can be highly complex. Ninety percent of patients present with the classic salt-wasting and simple virilization phenotype, including clitoromegaly and labial fusion, frequently as a result of 21-hydroxylase deficiency.[4] Overall, patients with CAH seem to do best when raised as females. While gender-affirming care and care for patients with DSD are different, they touch on similar issues of gender and its role in society, and the two are not always easily distinguished in the public eye.
