- Abstract
This article focuses on high school credit being offered by the Washington State Music Teachers Association (WSMTA) High School Credit program to students in the state for applied music study, as of December 2005. There are several qualifications for credit, including the student must study a balanced program of repertoire, memorizing at least one composition from each of the four historical musical periods, the student may substitute one ensemble piece or one accompaniment of comparable difficulty in one of the musical periods, the student must study material chosen by the teacher at the appropriate level for the student and must perform a minimum of two memorized pieces in the WSMTA annual Adjudications Program.
