- Abstract
The present study summarized the reported research achievements of Saccharum classification, geographic origins, cultivation origin and propagation, Saccharum evolution and genome evolution, and comprehensively analyzed sugarcane origin and evolution process, which support the hypothesis suggested by Brandes in 1958. In future, the interrelations among S. spontancum, S. robustwn and S. officinarum should he further studied to fully explore the origin and evolution process of sugarcane. Furthermore, the whole genome sequencing, chloroplast genomics and genetic linkage map construction of sugarcane should be carried out for the in-depth analysis of sugarcane genetic structure and domestication process.
