- Abstract
Penetrating trauma by foreign bodies in orbit as wood fragments, which are porous and organic in nature, can generate significant local inflammatory reaction, causing tearing, persistent inflammation, restricted ocular motility, loss of visual acuity and can lead to blindness if not established its early surgical removal, as well the need for antimicrobial and antifungal prophylaxis institution. The diagnosis of such injuries should be conducted by careful clinical assessment because in some cases, small fragments deeply held may go undetected by traditional imaging methods, being computed tomography (CT), the image resource with better cost benefit for these clinical situations. This paper aims to illustrate a case of penetrating injury in orbit by a large organic wooden object held deep in the orbital cone in a patient with subtle clinical signs, as well as discuss diagnostic and therapeutic procedures described in the literature for similar cases.
