- Abstract
Introduction: The positioning of the patient allows exposure of the surgical site, body alignment, decreases pressure on tissues and preserves circulatory functions. Objective: To identify surgeries according to the risk of developing pressure injuries in the operating room of a teaching hospital. Methods: This is an exploratory, descriptive study, and its results were analyzed quantitatively. Based on two instruments, one developed by the researcher containing demographic, clinical and surgical data and classification of pressure injuries according to the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel and Risk Assessment Scale for the development of injuries resulting from the patient's surgical positioning. These were applied randomly in the preoperative period, immediate postoperative period and the patients who remained hospitalized were evaluated in the first two late postoperative periods. Results: 930 evaluations were carried out on 305 surgical patients at random, aged between 18 and 60 years, in small to special surgeries, and none of them presented skin lesions. It was identified that there are specialties more prone to the development of pressure ulcer, such as neurosurgery, cardiology and gastrointestinal surgery. Conclusion: It became evident in the findings of this study that monitoring the indicator is essential to reduce or even prevent the development of skin lesions, contributing to patient safety.
