- Abstract
The article examines verbal and tonal working memory (WM) in both nonmusicians and highly trained musicians. The findings revealed that the core structures of WM are involved in both tonal and verbal WM. The researchers concluded that there are two WM systems in musicians, namely a phonological loop supporting rehearsal of phonological information, and a tonal loop supporting rehearsal of tonal information.
