- Abstract
The article focuses on Dutch historian, professor and a prisoner in Nazi concentration camp, Pieter Geyl. The article discusses Geyl's authority on recent British history due to his time as a journalist in World War I, Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and his interest in the writings of philosopher Thomas Carlyle and Geyl's criticism of Carlyle's philosophy. The article discusses the criticalness of the responses Carlyle's writings induced.
