The author discusses Influenza surveillance systems, developed to monitor antigenic changes in influenza viruses, guide selection of influenza vaccine strains, and provide viral samples for vaccine production. Topics discussed include Influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), used for influenza surveillance, risk factor analysis for modified SARI and pneumonia, and importance of implementing a high-quality surveillance system for SARI and pneumonia.
