- Title
Nanomaterials: Earthworms lit with quantum dots.
- Authors
Tilley, Richard D.; Cheong, Soshan
- Abstract
The article focuses on the potential use of earthworm, Lumbricus rubellus to produce highly luminescent cadmium telluride (CdTe) quantum dots. It mentions the use of yeast, bacteria and fungi on the synthesis of nanocrystals of semiconductor materials. It talks on the optical properties of nanocrystals, which are useful as probes for multicolour, multimodal cell labeling, and long-term detection of cancerous cells and tissues.
