- Abstract
The article focuses on the state of HIV infection in Rhode Island, considered as the second most densely populated state in the U.S. It highlights the high HIV prevalence in the state with 1,627 cases in 2007. It cites several ways that contribute to the transmission of the infection which include men having sex with men (MSM) and using non-injection illicit drugs. It also indicates the collaborations between academic medical communities and community care providers including Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RIDOC), International Institute of Rhode Island (IIRI), and AIDS Care Ocean State (ACOS) to address the issue of HIV in marginalized populations in the state.
