- Abstract
Officials are necessary participants in organized sport. Only recently, however, have researchers considered officials as the focus of their research. Most of the research on sport officials has centered on an obvious topic: decision -making. While psychological skills of athletes have received a tremendous amount of attention from sport researchers, those same skills have been virtually ignored in sports officials. Self-efficacy of the athlete or exerciser has long been a fertile ground for research. In just the last few years, this research has been extended to the sport official. The present paper reviews initial conceptualizations of referee self-efficacy and suggests additional considerations to those models. Directions for future research in this area are also provided.
