- Abstract
Para organizar y medir algo que es susceptible de cambio, como lo es la materia, el hombre se vio en la necesidad de nombrar estos cambios, y los denomina "tiempo" (del latín tempus). El tiempo ha tenido muchas interpretaciones en el transcurso de la historia, ya sea como un ente espacial (físico), como una fuerza que afecta un espacio, o como una paradoja de sucesos. En la Antigüedad el tiempo era considerado cíclico, lo que se presenta ahora va a volver a pasar, y así infinitamente. Más adelante, San Agustín de Hipona, en sus "Confesiones", se cuestiona sobre el origen del mismo y descubre el sentido lineal a partir de la creación. Un tiempo que inicia desde la presencia de materia y de nuestra noción del cambio de la misma; también comprende que dentro de nuestra noción del tiempo, podemos identificar un antes, un ahora y un después. Martin Heidegger, filósofo alemán, va a desarrollar un aspecto interesante con relación al Ser y el tiempo: el Ser sólo se manifiesta en un espacio y un tiempo, sin él, no es posible la existencia. La vida temporal puede ser plasmada en una quinta dimensión filosófica, donde el tiempo se materializa. La materia se manifiesta en 3 dimensiones. La primera es la longitud, la segunda es la latitud y la tercera el volumen. Al ser el tiempo el medidor de cambio de la materia, necesita una dimensión, ésta es la cuarta dimensión o mejor conocida como el espaciotiempo. La cuarta dimensión es coherente con los conceptos del tiempo de San Agustín. Albert Einstein, rompe con la idea clásica del tiempo absoluto y nos abre la posibilidad de la relatividad. El tiempo es relativo, es lineal, y está determinado por la gravedad. Stephen Hawking, explora los aspectos del tiempo descubiertos por Einstein y descubrirá que podemos tomar ventaja de ellos. Considera que podemos "viajar" a través de él, y que en realidad lo hacemos todo el tiempo.
