- Abstract
The article focuses on the conflict between Urdu and Hindi language as a marker of sociocultural and religious identity in North Western Provinces (NWP) in India. It states that several binaries have emerged as notion of Hindu-Muslim division have suggested which includes the partition into India and Pakistan, Urdu-Hindi language controversy, and battle between Persian and Devanagari scripts. It notes that some writers sees the binaries in the works at Fort William College.
