Keywords: anosmia; COVID-19; dysgeusia; hyposmia; olfaction disorders; risk for hospitalization; UPSIT EN anosmia COVID-19 dysgeusia hyposmia olfaction disorders risk for hospitalization UPSIT 1273 1277 5 07/28/21 20210801 NES 210801 INTRODUCTION Variable prevalence of smell and taste dysfunction caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has been reported worldwide.1,2 Although South American countries have been listed in the top ten of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) case numbers,3,4 psychophysical data has not been reported in these regions. The present study has the following limitations: (1) patients with smell impairment could have been more prone to participate; and (2) outpatients had greater smell loss and were tested with the UPSIT earlier than hospitalized patients. Outpatients versus hospitalized condition Hospitalized patients were significantly older than outpatients (51.1 ± 14.6 vs. 34.6 ± 11.5 years, 95% CI, 11.6-22.3; I t i = 6.301; I p i < 0.001). Anosmia, COVID-19, dysgeusia, hyposmia, olfaction disorders, risk for hospitalization, UPSIT.
