- Abstract
This work analyzed benthic foraminifera assemblages in well core samples in the outer shelf in front of Guanabara Bay in the Rio de Janeiro, to observe paleoenvironmental change sand sedimentary deposition processes. Collects were done using a piston core sampler in an isobath of 155 m and it was recovered 3.30 m of sediments. A total of 42 samples along the core PRIMA 4 were studied, and were treated in the laboratory with specific methodology for foraminifera. The faunistic variables and descriptors used in the present work were: diversity, dominance and equitability to paleoenvironmental characterization. The cluster analys is howed three benthic foraminifera biofacies AE/QQ, QQ/ QC and CU/QQ. The radiocarbon dating results (14C AMS) of the Prima 4 revealed the presence of sediments deposited during the beginning of the marine transgression that occurred in the last global deglaciation, after the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). The benthic foraminifera vertical distribution pattern in the well core was quite variable, due to the response of the foraminifera to the deposition conditions during the last 28.000 years B.P.
