- Abstract
Aim of the study: The paper describes authors' experience in the treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax in children. Material and methods: From 2000 to 2005 a total number of 6 patients (3 males and 3 females, mean age 16 years) underwent thoracoscopy for primary sponataneous pneumothorax. Patients were treated with thoracoscopic talc poudrage, thoracoscopic resection of bulla or using both procedures. Results: In l case out of 3 after resection of bulla without pleurodesis we observed recurrence of pneumothorax. We did not notice any recurrences after thoracoscopic recesction with talc pleurodesis. We did not observe any intratoperative complications and conversion to open thoracotomy was not needed. One case required repeated thoracoscopy for evacuation of haematoma. Conclusion: Thoracoscopy is a simple and safe method in the treatment of spontaneous pneumothorax, which should be used in first episode of pneumothorax.
