- Title
Second-Order Observation in Social Science: Autopoietic Foundations.
- Authors
Buchinger, Eva
- Abstract
The author comments on an article by U.S. cybernetician Stuart Umpleby on the need for a new scientific method or a second-order science. He argues that as a sociologist himself, Umpleby is absolutely right to emphasize the relevance of particular second-order theories and methods. He also discusses the principle of autopoiesis and clarifies the important role of the observer in what is observed.
