- Title
Milton's Muse and the De Doctrina.
- Authors
Shaheen, Naseeb
- Abstract
The article discusses invocations written by the poet John Milton in his poems "Paradise Lost" and "Paradise Regained," and examined the argument that the "Heavenly Muse" is in fact the Holy Spirit. Milton's writing on the Holy Spirit in his book "De Doctrina Christiana" is also commented on, and the inconsistency between his assertion in that work that the Holy Spirit should not be called upon and his invocations is explored.
