- Abstract
Systemic lupus erythematosus, which is generally related to a central or peripheral nervous system abnormality, is a complex and multi- system-involving disease. Neurological involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus is known as a bad prognostic criterion and considered as the major cause of mortality. A 27-year-old female patient was admitted to our clinic with the clinical picture of recurrent cerebral venous thrombosis and myelitis accompanied by optic nerve involvement. During her evaluation, she was diagnosed as systemic lupus erythematosus because of establishment of the antibodies of ANA and anti SS-A. Her response to Endoxan and steroid treatment was good. In this report, we aimed to emphasize the significance of consideration of the diagnosis of systemic lupus erythematosus and of immediate and appropriate immunosuppressive treatment in patients applying with a clinical picture of cerebral venous thrombosis and myelitis with optic nerve involvement, even though they do not have the cardinal symptoms of the disease.
