- Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine whether overweight influence on the responses of heart rate (HR), blood pressure and cardiac autonomic modulation in the end and after a session of resistance exercise in sedentary adolescents. Thirty-four adolescents were divided into two groups: Eutrophic (n = 19, age = 15 ± 1 year old and BMI = 20 ± 1 kg / m²) and overweight group (n = 15, age = 16 ± 1 year old and BMI = 26 ± 1 kg / m²). The exercise session consisted of 10 minutes of rest in the supine position, 10 min heating, 20 minutes of strength (5 years, 3 sets of 12 repetitions at 60 % 1RM) and 30 minutes of recovery. Blood pressure was assessed at rest and at the end of recovery. HR, IRR and SDNN (sympatho-vagal modulation), RMSSD and pNN50 (parasympathetic modulation) were measured at rest, at the end of exercise and recovery. The HR and sympathetic modulation at rest were higher in the overweight group. The overweight group also showed reduced IRR and parasympathetic modulation at rest. However, overweight did not affect the responses of these variables in the end and after resistance exercise. Therefore, these data suggest that cardiac and cardiovascular autonomic behaviours in sedentary adolescents in response to resistance exercise are not influenced by body overweight.
